Blue Ridge Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace and Earring Set by Samson Begay, Navajo
Blue Ridge Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace and Earring Set by Samson Begay, Navajo
Samson Begay, a Navajo silversmith, created this squash blossom necklace and matching earring set in bright sterling silver with hand-filed filework blossoms and natural Blue Ridge turquoise cabochons. Blue Ridge turquoise, mined in Arizona, is prized for its vivid sky-blue color and natural matrix variation. The filework blossom technique involves cutting decorative patterns into silver with a jeweler's file — a labor-intensive process that creates the fine linear texture characteristic of classic Navajo squash blossom work. The squash blossom necklace form developed in the 1880s from Spanish colonial bridle pomegranate motifs and became the most iconic form in Navajo jewelry. Available exclusively through Turquoise Mustang.
