Orange Spiny Oyster Squash Blossom Globe Pendant by Tim Yazzie, Navajo
Orange Spiny Oyster Squash Blossom Globe Pendant by Tim Yazzie, Navajo
Tim Yazzie, a Navajo silversmith, created this oversized dimensional squash blossom globe pendant in heavy-gauge oxidized sterling silver with eight orange spiny oyster cabochons bezel-set around the midline and deeply stamped peyote button and diamond motifs across both upper and lower domes. Spiny oyster (Spondylus) shell has been traded across the American Southwest for over a thousand years. The squash blossom globe form is a contemporary evolution of the traditional Navajo squash blossom pendant, replacing the flat blossom with a fully spherical three-dimensional form. Measures 4.5" tall, 2" wide, 52 grams. Bale: 10mm. Available exclusively through Turquoise Mustang.
