Chris Nieto, a Kewa (Santo Domingo) Pueblo artisan from New Mexico, created this double-drop pendant using traditional Santo Domingo inlay technique in a geometric Mondrian-inspired grid — hand-cutting and fitting turquoise, spiny oyster, serpentine, lapis, mother of pearl, and sugilite into black jet channels. Santo Domingo Pueblo has been the center of heishi and mosaic inlay jewelry production in the American Southwest for over a thousand years, and the Kewa people are regarded as the master inlay jewelers of the Pueblo world.
