Sugilite and Turquoise Mosaic Inlay Cuff by Henry Sam, Navajo

Henry Sam, a master Navajo inlay silversmith, combined sugilite and turquoise in this mosaic inlay sterling silver cuff — hand-cutting each stone piece and fitting them flush within the silver channel to create a seamless surface of violet and blue. Sugilite is a rare cyclosilicate mineral mined primarily in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, prized for its vivid purple-violet color; it is one of the few gemstones that produce a true purple and is among the most collectible stones in Southwest jewelry.
