Sand Cast Sterling Silver Cuff with Petroglyph Motifs and Pentagon Stones by Danny Romero, Navajo

Danny Romero, a Navajo silversmith, produced this cuff using the sand casting technique — pouring molten silver into carved sandstone molds — leaving a rugged organic surface texture, then adding hand-carved petroglyph silver motifs and pentagon-cut stone cabochons in clean bezel settings. Sand casting and tufa casting are related traditional Southwest silversmithing techniques; the sandstone mold produces a finer grain texture than tufa.
