A Navajo silversmith created this heavy cast sterling silver squash blossom pendant set with an oval red spiny oyster stone. The squash blossom form developed in Navajo silversmithing from Spanish colonial bridle pomegranate motifs in the 1880s and became the most iconic form in Navajo jewelry. Red spiny oyster (Spondylus princeps) is a Pacific shell historically traded across ancient Southwest trade networks and among the most culturally significant organic materials in Native American jewelry. Available exclusively through Turquoise Mustang.
